In 1910 George & Mary Ann lived at what is now 8568 Richter Road in Mascoutah Township. They rented the farm from his father, who went to board with a family in New Baden Village. However, George's two unmarried brothers Frank & Xavier stayed at the farm. Jacob Anstedt was their neighbor.
Six months before his father died, he came back to live with them. He died there on 23 February 1913.
George died about six weeks before his father. He had tuberculosis of the lungs. He was forty-five years old. Dr. G. H. Poos of Summerfield attended him for six months.
Mary and her two sons George and Roland went to live with her widowed mother, Christine Bassler, on a farm in Mascoutah Township. George's brother, Xavier went to live with his brother, Joseph Haas & Elizabeth Friederich, one farm north of Emil & Anna Haas. George's brother, Frank, had died 30 June 1914.
