Osage, Iowa: Albert Mayer, past 60 years old, Stacyville cattle buyer w as in a Charles City hospital Thursday with injuries which Sherif Lewis Ha berkorn said were self-inflicted with a razor following his arrest on a ch arge of uttering a worthless bank check. Injuries to his throat were desc ribed as not serious.
Mayer had been arrainged before Justice Charles Bailey and was unable to p ay his fine so he was sentenced to serve 20 days in the county jail. Foll owing his attempt to take his life with a razor he was taken to the Charl es City hospital as the local hospital could not make room for an extra pa tient, and there was not adequate facilities in the sheriffs quarters.
Sheriff Haberkorn says another check is standing against Mayer for an amou nt in excess of $20 which brings it in the class of a felony. He will n ow be required to sign an appearanc bond of $250 and is bound over to t he October term of court.
Mayer was convicted on a similar charge March 22 then fined $100, of whi ch $75 was suspended upon good behavior. that suspension is now revoked.
